How Clean is ‘Clean?’

The world in which we live, and our collective way of life, have changed dramatically in the past year with the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus pandemic. Chief among those changes is a heightened focus on cleanliness, particularly as it affects personal safety and public health.

So how do we define ‘clean’ in 2021? If you know us at all, you know we have experts on the team who can answer that question.

Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned

Our SERVPRO experts faced the pandemic head-on, developing a specialized viral pathogen-cleaning program that prevents the spread of Covid-19. We believe in it so strongly that we’ll certify your safety when we’re finished.

The process is built from our three C’s: Consult, Clean, and Certify.

First, our professionals - covered head-to-toe in a safety suit - will consult the situation to determine a plan of action. Every business is unique, and in these delicate times, we think every cleaning plan should be unique, too. The team will check out the space and ask questions to ensure no nook or cranny is missed.

Then it comes time to clean. We go to work using our hospital-grade cleaning solutions - which are EPA-approved and adhere to all CDC standards - relying on a variety of techniques depending on the surface, space, and other circumstances affecting your business.

Last comes the most important part: certification. You don’t want to just be “pretty sure” about cleanliness in these times; you want to certify your safety and the safety of your employees and customers. We will do a final, thorough review of your business to ensure our high standards for cleanliness and customer satisfaction have been met. If they have, we’ll slap a Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned badge on your business to let customers know you’ve made cleanliness and safety a priority.

Residential Cleaning Services

Our cleaning services don’t stop with our commercial property owners. Our pros are experts in residential cleaning as well!

From carpets and upholstery to air ducts, sewage backup or mold build-up, we’ve seen it before and we know what to do next. We’ll clean the dirt and grime you see on the surface but will go deeper to attack the dust and odor build-up living beneath the surface. Trust us, you’ll notice the difference when all is said and done.

Contents Cleaning Explained

Feminine hand with painted nails resurfacing a wooden tabletop. Many different types of belongings made from a myriad of materials can be restored to preloss condition if properly handled.

If disaster affects your property in a major way, your belongings may have been impacted as well. When working with your insurance company or speaking with SERVPRO of Denton, you may have heard the phrase “contents cleaning” thrown around. There is more to contents cleaning than just the actual cleaning of your belongings. This blog post will break down the contents cleaning process for you so you know what is happening to your beloved belongs every step of the way.

Step One: The Contents Analysis. Before the contents are able to be cleaned, the restoration company will determine what is salvageable and what is non-salvageable. Salvageable items are those that can be cleaned and restored to preloss condition while un-salvageable items cannot be restored and will need to be replaced.

Step Two: The Pack Up. The SERVPRO technician in charge of your contents will begin by photographing all of your salvageable items, then add barcodes to each of your items (or each box of your items). This will ensure that your items can be tracked at any time and that nothing will get lost. Once all the items have been accounted for, they will be packed up and transported to the restoration facility for cleaning.

Step Three: The Pack Out. Back at the warehouse, the items will be unpacked and prepared for the actual cleaning.

Step Four: The Contents Cleaning. Once unpacked, our technicians will go through and examine every item to determine the best way to clean each one. Several factors are considered, such as the material that the item is made of (generally meaning whether they are hard or soft contents), if they should be washed by hand or by machine, and what type of chemicals can safely be used on each item. Most hard items can be cleaned in a machine, like the UltraSONIC cleaning machine used by SERVPRO of Denton. Delicate items and electronics will undergo specialized types of cleaning to ensure that they are handled correctly

Step Five: Contents Storage. If your contents are cleaned before the work on your property is completed, your belongings need to be safely stored somewhere. They will be kept in our climate controlled warehouse until the work on your property is finished.

Step Six: The Pack Back. Your property is now ready, and your contents are transported back to your home or business.

Step Seven: The Unpack. The final stage of the contents cleaning process! Once at your property, the boxes containing your contents will be unloaded and unpacked. Our technician will go over the contents inventory with you to ensure that everything was returned and allow you to inspect the quality of your items.

And that’s it! Trust that SERVPRO of Denton can give you post-disaster peace of mind by allowing us to handle your content need! Give us a call at (940)566-2277 or submit an information form today!

The Different Degrees of Clean

Household cleaning products, sponges, and gloves arranged on a wood floor. Keeping essential cleaning supplies on hand makes you more likely to stick to a regular cleaning routine.

The “right way” to deal with germs is currently a hotly debated and widely discussed topic. Though no consensus has been reached, it may be helpful to know the difference between cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting. To clean something is to remove the visible debris, dust, or dirt from the surface, or to organize a space. To sanitize an area or item is to make it free of germs that could be harmful to your health according to public health recommendations or requirements. Disinfecting goes a step further by killing microscopic organisms (germs, viruses, fungi) on surfaces. The frequency of which an object or space should be cleaned, sanitized, and/or disinfected is dependent on several factors, such as exposure to outside elements or frequency of use. Now that you know the difference between these three degrees of clean, here are some ways you can take your home or business to a higher level of cleanliness:

-Clean your space and belongings regularly. Routine cleaning and disinfection make the build-up of dust, debris, and dirt such as hair or skin flakes less likely to build up over time. A regular cleaning routine also gives the ability to break up your workload, which may make your chore load feel more manageable.

-Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces daily. The CDC classifies high-touch surfaces as those that are handled frequently throughout the day by numerous people. This includes but is not limited to doorknobs, counters, faucets, electronics, and light switches. You can clean these surfaces by getting rid of any visible dust or debris. Then, you can spray the surface of the object with soapy water or multi-purpose cleaning spray. Finally, you can apply a disinfectant appropriate for that respective surface.

-Remember to protect your skin and eyes when cleaning. Wearing skin protection (such as gloves) or eye protection may be beneficial depending on the type of chemicals that you are working with. Be sure to read the labels of whatever product you do use in order to ensure that you are using them properly and that you are taking the appropriate precautionary measures when handling them. When you are not using your cleaning products, be sure to store them some where that they cannot be accessed by children or pets.

These are all measures that you can take yourself to keep your home or business cleaner, but SERVPRO of Denton is proud to offer preventive cleaning services that are ushering in a new standard of clean. Our Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned program provides defensive pathogen cleaning, which goes far deeper than any routine cleaning. Contact us to learn more about these services!

Dust is something that most people do not consider important when it comes to cleaning. It’s one thing to take Pledge to every piece of furniture that has a layer of dust from the week, but it’s another to check one of the main sources of the dust: the air. Whether you’re a homeowner, only worried about your residential home, or you’re an engineer keeping up with commercial building maintenance. It is important to keep your duct work clean.

For residential homes, getting your ducts cleaned more than once a year is excessive. However, having them cleaned once a year or once every two years would overall improve the air quality of your home. If you are someone who has respiratory issues, having your ducts cleaned every 6 months to 1 year would be your best option.

When it comes to commercial buildings, especially those that produce plastics, metals, and other industrial material, it is VITAL for commercial air ducts to be cleaned. Keeping those quantities to a minimum can be attained by scheduling quarterly duct cleanings with SERVPRO of Denton. Duct cleanings are a preventative measure that many businesses take in order to avoid a much more costly accident in the future.
